Keep Opelika Beautiful

Our Mission is Simple!
Lee County PALS strives to keep our beautiful county litter free through personal effort, responsible citizenship, volunteering, and donations to fund our efforts.

While the mission remains simple, here are some complex examples of why it's important to participate in this community organization:

Time to Waste AWAY:
Paper 2 1/2 months
Cigarette Butt 10-12 years
Plastic Bag 10-20 years
Aluminum Cans 200-500 years
Plastic Bottles and Styrofoam Indefinitely
Why should we care about the litter problem?
Litter is bad for Lee County for many reasons. It poses health risks (germs), harms water quality (a precious resource), harms wildlife habitats (they don't litter, people do), it is associated with increased crime, it creates an ugly and discouraging environment, AND it costs a lot of MONEY and TIME to clean up.

How can I help?
It's easy! Simply fill out the Membership Form to join the chapter and mail it to Lee County PALS, PO Box 2654, Opelika, AL 36803-2654. If you are enclosing a check, please make it payable to Lee County PALS. You will receive information on upcoming meetings and events that you can participate in. By working together, you will be joined by other Lee County volunteers helping make our county the cleanest in Alabama. You can also volunteer to serve on various committees, such as Education, Special Events, Adopt-A-Programs, and Business/Industry.

What will Lee County PALS provide to me?
A network of citizens, just like you, who want to make our county a cleaner, healthier place to live, work, and raise our families. Our goal is to reduce litter by changing the public's behavior and attitude. This is your opportunity to become involved and make those changes happen.

What types of programs will Lee County PALS offer?
We will provide litter education curriculum to schools, scholarship programs, coordinated community-wide clean ups, implement Adopt-A-Programs (such as the Adopt-A-Mile program used across Alabama), create recycling programs - the possibilities are endless. We will accomplish these goals by partnering with the cities in our county, local government agencies and departments, schools, and other civic organizations.
